Keepers of the Culture

Culture is like the wind. It is invisible, yet its effect can be seen and felt. – Bryan Walker, Partner and Managing Director, Ideo

A leader-driven culture embraces employee growth, inclusivity, and diversity. Great Leaders model the culture, create a learning atmosphere and ensure people understand its purpose and mission. The everyday behavior of leaders has an impact on:

  1. the employee experience,
  2. business growth,
  3. productivity, and
  4. your customer’s experience.

In this month’s blog post, How to Build a Strong Leadership Culture, I provide insight into what a leadership culture is and five (5) steps you can take to build a great culture within your organization.

Culture Champions

The folks at MITSloan teamed up with Glassdoor and CultureX to publish the Culture 500 Index. It is a large-scale research project measuring culture values using 1.4M reviews from Glassdoor. I found the rankings in the “Customer” category Culture 500/Customer fascinating; 4 of the top 6 are in the biotech/research industries. The Index is an outstanding publication and might provide some inspiration for your dashboard initiatives.

Preserving a Culture

For Black History Month, we celebrate African Americans’ journey and contributions in this country. While you reflect on the past, I invite you to (re)commit to creating a culture within your organization built on diversity. I recommend reviewing Gallup’s Center for the Black American Experience to gain insights into the experiences, perceptions, and aspirations of Black Americans. Representation matters.

Culture drives everything.
